The HSI picked up 223 points or 1.1% to 20,149 at midday. The HSCEI gained 95 points or 1.3% to 7,331. The HSTECH climbed 114 points or 2.5% to 4,709. Total half-day turnover of the market amounted to $87.108 billion.

Chip stock SMIC (00981.HK) swelled 7.4% to $42.5 during the intraday trading session, setting an about-4.5-year high. HUA HONG SEMI (01347.HK) leaped 3.4%, while handset parts stocks SUNNY OPTICAL (02382.HK), BYD ELECTRONIC (00285.HK) and AAC TECH (02018.HK) advanced 4.2-5.3%.

Chinese developer COUNTRY GARDEN (02007.HK) leapfrogged 23.7% to $0.6 after trading of its shares resumed. Other Chinese developers elevated. CHINA VANKE (02202.HK) surged 12.5%, while KWG GROUP (01813.HK) and SUNAC (01918.HK) rallied 8.6% and 7.5%. AGILE GROUP (03383.HK) escalated 6.3%, while GREENTOWN CHINA (03900.HK), YUEXIU PROPERTY (00123.HK), R&F PROPERTIES (02777.HK), SEAZEN (01030.HK) and CHINA JINMAO (00817.HK) mushroomed 3.1-4.1%. Chinese managers CHINA RES MIXC (01209.HK) and CG SERVICES (06098.HK) ballooned 4.3% and 7.5%.
