Alibaba (BABA.US) and Baidu (BIDU.US) started using their own AI chips to train AI models, according to a report by The Information on Thursday.

Alibaba began using its chips earlier this year to train smaller models, utilizing the Zhenwu processing unit, while Baidu is still experimenting with its internally designed Kunlun P800 chip to upgrade its Ernie model, the media reported, citing people with the knowledge of the matter.
